Exploring Color and Mark-Making Through Analog Silkscreen

Jul 5 - 9, 2021

9AM-5PM

Concept

This analog, yet contemporary, approach to silkscreen takes digital image processing and impeccable editioning practices and tosses them out the window. Students are encouraged to engage in direct mark-making on transparencies and challenge their color sensibilities through creating varied editions. These two expressive, spontaneous and nuanced approaches to the process not only lend themselves to unexpected and often painterly results; they focus on the formal qualities of image construction and deconstruction as well as provide a heightened awareness of color relationships. Students create their compositions from the local environment, source images, or invent them from the imagination.

Media

Acrylic screen-printing ink, transparency generation through brushwork, collage and wax crayon media, experimental printing methods with a focus on tone, value, transparency/opacity variation across each printed layer
