Rendering the Tangible: Drawing from Life

Jul 22 - 26, 2024

9AM - 5PM

Concept

Participants allow themselves the time, space, and guidance to examine and respond to what they see in this drawing workshop open to artists of all skill levels. Each day, they embark on the fascinating journey of taking the time to make drawings from a live model, still life, personal objects/relics, and our natural surroundings, formally approaching drawing through exercises in line, contour, negative/positive space, value studies, and composition. Conceptual intent is also explored through choosing personal subject matter and discovering ways to best articulate through the immediate medium of drawing.

Liz Ferrill will be present for the entire duration of the workshop; Simon Haas will join daily from 9am – 3pm.

Accessing the Abstract

Rema Ghuloum

Tuition $1,415
Code D0408-25

In this rigorous and productive painting course, we explore the generative elements of our individual and shared visual language as it relates to abstract painting. Through daily assignments, prompts, and a series of one-on-one and group critiques, we focus on how to access our inherent intentions in regards to mark making, brushwork, and color and build on our ideas. Students interested in exploring the emotive qualities of paint and/or the desire to delve into abstraction in their paintings are also welcome to use meditation as a tool. With these exercises, we cultivate our work alongside each other and hone our language to constructively conceive of and discuss our varying artistic processes—and what inspires our work to develop.
