The Art of Mexico

Jul 4 - 8, 2022

9AM-3PM

Concept

Join this culturally-rich workshop where students create and design art projects based on traditional Mexican folk arts including pottery, weaving and paper crafts. While learning some basic Spanish, students look at various examples of artwork from regions in Mexico as well as their historic significance. Students then create their own artworks inspired by “alejibres” which are whimsical wooden toys, “hojalata” or tin artwork, “papel picado” which is a cut paper technique—plus ceramics and more! On Friday there is a celebration with a piñata for friends and families to enjoy.

This workshop is taught by a bilingual art educator who will support our English and Spanish speaking participants through the use of both languages during instruction.

Art Through Time!

Hannah Baker

Tuition $600
Code K0101-26

Pack your bags—we’re going on an art adventure through history! Each day, young artists travel to a different time and place to discover how people have made art for thousands of years. We start by painting cave-style murals like early humans, then try our hands at clay tablets inspired by ancient Mesopotamia. We design pottery like the Greeks and Romans, decorate fancy letters like medieval artists, and make bright “stained-glass” collages that glow with color. Moving forward in time, we splash paint like the Impressionists, create bold pop art, and dream up what art might look like in the future! By the end of the week, every child has created a “time capsule” of their own amazing creations—celebrating creativity from the past, present, and beyond!
