Concept
This immersive four-day workshop invites participants to discover the powerful intersection of equine-assisted exploration, personal experience, and interdisciplinary art-making through a unique collaboration between WindWalkers and Anderson Ranch Arts Center. A key component of the workshop introduces participants to digital fabrication tools, transforming 2D drawings into 3D forms. Students will create sculptural interpretations of horses, hybrid animals, or imagined creatures—extending their emotional and symbolic responses into new dimensions. The workshop emphasizes themes of connection, embodiment, transformation, and the human–animal relationship, encouraging experimentation, play, and personal expression. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exploration, students will learn how to move fluidly between image-making, material exploration, and object-based practices, expanding their understanding of what their work can become.
Days 1–2: WindWalkers — Equine Experience
Participants begin their journey at WindWalkers through engagement with the natural environment and guided equine-assisted experiences. Through simple bookmaking, expressive sketching, and close interaction with horses, students explore presence, trust, emotional awareness, and nonverbal communication. These sessions are designed to foster reflection and personal insight, creating a strong foundation for their creative work.
Days 3–4: Anderson Ranch Arts Center — Art Making
Participants transition into the studios at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, where they translate their experiences into visual and sculptural form. Working from photographs, sketches, and memories developed during their time with the horses, students will explore both intuitive and structured approaches to art-making.
This workshop is perfect for artists, creatives, and seekers of all kinds who are ready to go beyond the canvas — exploring nature, presence, and the wisdom of the herd as a source of creative inspiration.

Liz Ferrill
Senior Artistic Director of Painting, Drawing & Printmaking; Artists-in-Residence Program; Critical Dialogue Program
Liz Ferrill is the Senior Artistic Director of Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking at Anderson Ranch. She received her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. She has had solo exhibitions nationally and internationally, including in Aspen, Nashville, Omaha, New York City, and Berlin, Germany.
Sheri Gaynor
Sheri Gaynor, LCSW, is a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist and Advanced Eponaquest Instructor. She weaves the transformative power of creativity and ritual with the intuitive wisdom of horses to support healing, self-discovery, and embodied growth. Through expressive and experiential practices, Sheri creates nurturing spaces where participants deepen self-awareness, reconnect with their inner wisdom, and experience meaningful transformation through the healing presence of horses, nature, and authentic connection.
Andrea Jenkins Wallace
Vice President of Artistic Affairs, Artistic Director of Photography and New Media
Andrea Jenkins Wallace earned her M.F.A. from the University of Colorado Boulder after completing her undergraduate degree in Communications Media. Prior to joining Anderson Ranch, she spent over a decade in academia, holding tenure-track appointments at Lake Forest College and Willamette University. She continues to teach courses at Colorado College and the University of Denver. An accomplished speaker, Andrea has presented at institutions such as the Denver Art Museum and the Stonewall National Museum. Her documentary film, Rochell and Brian, which explores teenage pregnancy, premiered at the New York International Independent Film Festival. Andrea’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with numerous shows across the Americas, Europe, China, and the Middle East. Preferred Pronouns: She/Her

Lodging & Meals
Housing is limited and includes shared and private lodging options. Reservations will be managed on a first-come, first-served basis. The earlier you reserve housing, the better your chance of receiving your preferred option. Please note: Workshop costs do not include accommodations.

Photography & New Media Studio in Aspen / Snowmass
The Photography & New Media Studio at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, located in Snowmass Village near Aspen, Colorado, is a professional studio environment designed to support immersive photographic and digital media practice. The facility provides dedicated workspaces, critique areas, and technical infrastructure for artists working in traditional photography, digital imaging, video, and experimental new media.

Photography has always been a vital part of Anderson Ranch, one in which students explore visual storytelling through a variety of contexts and concepts. The program has uniquely evolved to focus on both traditional photography and new media— making it one of the only workshop settings of its kind. Three floors of the Fischer Photography Center house state-of-the-art equipment, including three photography studios, two Mac labs, a traditional darkroom, and a lighting studio with strobe and continuous lighting for photography and video.
All photography workshops are rooted in the same idea—powerful art requires rigorous inquiry of techniques and ideas. We focus on technical skills, content and critical dialog. Students have access to color-managed media labs equipped with 24-inch iMacs, flatbed and film scanners, Epson printers, and cutting-edge software including Adobe Creative Cloud. When appropriate, students utilize strobe and tungsten lighting equipment, seamless backdrops, green screen, audio and video recording equipment and Epson large-format printers.
The Ranch Photography and New Media team creates an inspiring environment, allowing artists of all levels to explore lens-based media and the journey of artistic discovery in the unparalleled setting of the Colorado Rockies.

Alternative Processes Unleashed: Platinum/Palladium Printing

The combination of platinum and palladium yields prints with remarkable tonal depth, subtlety, and unmatched permanence. Participants will learn to create digital negatives from their own images, brush-coat light-sensitive emulsions onto watercolor paper, and expose their prints to UV light. No prior experience is necessary.

Photography students have some formal training and significant experience making, capturing and digitally processing images using Adobe Lightroom and/or Adobe Photoshop. New Media students have some formal training in conceptual and technological aspects of video, multimedia, coding or animation and are versed in the appropriate software applications. Students have a portfolio of their artwork.

Exploring Image-Making Through Lived Experience and Power Dynamics

This workshop is designed for photographers interested in reimagining the politics of image-making through the lens of lived experience — particularly those shaped by gender, feminism, marginalization, and underrepresented perspectives. Drawing on both historical strategies and speculative approaches, participants will engage in collaborative and experimental exercises such as multiple exposures, camera-passing, and surrealist "exquisite corpse" techniques. Together, we'll challenge traditional roles of photographer and subject, questioning photography's roots in authorship, control, and visual dominance. Through image-making, critique, discussion, and selected readings, we'll explore how even the smallest choices — editing, framing, language — can reinforce or resist dominant structures of seeing. This workshop invites play, experimentation, and critical reflection as we ask not just what an image shaped by marginalized experience looks like, but what it can do.
